They Still Press Vinyl

I had a first pressing of this once, and I sold it to pay for some label shit (I am working on changing my “business model” so that I don’t have to do this ever again), and then I heard that B9 was going to press it again for the 10 year anniversary of it’s release. A bloody good idea if you ask me.

So here we have a copy on Gold vinyl. This is true gold vinyl., none of that metallic brownish green that passes as gold these days, but the transparent yellow/orange of days past.

I really don’t think that much REALLY needs to be said about this album though. This is their final record, and in my opinion their best work. Fast & angry with awesome breakdowns.

Not sure of the pressing numbers on this one, but I’m not too fussed these days. They also expanded the artwork to include a gatefold cover, which was planned in the first press, but was too expensive for the label to do, so the insert image is now the gatefold. Looks great. It is also on the same kind of stock (reverse board), so it has the same look and stays pretty true to the original.

Head over to B9 and pick this up, A great record, and one that is deserving of a place in any hardcore kids collection.

This is going to be my record of the summer!

Since the first El Bronx LP came out, I had been hoping that it wasn’t a once off thing, and then there were shows and tours and collab singles and then the announcement of a second LP and I have been champing at the bit ever since.

What you get here is more of the same for the most part, but the band have toured more (as El Bronx) and on this record they have worked with some other Mariachi producers and groups, and I personally think that this is a better all round record. The first song along is the best thing they have done in my opinion (my wife would disagree, as she is all about the first record), and I’m hoping it brings another tour out to Australia.

The packaging on this rules too! The vinyl is Mexican flag colours, and the layout is simple and good fun.

This one will get many a spin this coming summer, and i have played this 4 times since it landed yesterday!

Olé!

Sorry for the lack of updates (I’m already apologising and I am only up to Post 3…), but it hasn’t been for lack of records coming in, more a lack of time to post.

Here is a 5” I got as part of a trade with RSR in Germany, and it is the 2 song Coma 5” from Extortion.

Personally, I love this format, even if it is super short, I love the idea of 5” records, and I really hope to release something soon on this format!

The songs here are outtakes from the SICK LP sessions, with Coma being a dirty slow instrumental jam (which are personally my favourite from Extortion), and Decompose being fairly standard Extortion fare, but I really like the distorted vocals on this one.

This was limited to 300 copies, and 100 had a screen printed cover (Which I haven but didn’t photograph for this post), and shit sold super quick on the Extortion tour…

A fun little record, and here’s hoping for new Extortion stuff real soon!

This is an LP I have been waiting for a good while now, and it is from a band that interests me greatly.

If you don’t know of Listeners work, please check them out here: http://listener.bandcamp.com/

This is actually one of two records I asked the band to release on vinyl, and I was told that they had something in place for this release, but I could do the first album, “Return to Struggleville” if I wanted. Fast forward a bit, and Dan from the band asked me to put him in touch with Broken Circles, as they were going to release this themselves, and they wanted some distro, and then Broken Circles released this. I was a bit bummed that I didn’t get to do it, but I have to say, that it is a beautifully done release.

The cover, is a reverse board finish, and the colours are just wonderful on the jacket. The photos I have taken do it no justice. Honestly, it is lovely.

This was release on 4 colours, and while I only have the Black and the Teal, I think the other colours would compliment the artwork perfectly.

It also sounds great on Vinyl, as I assumed it would, and while I have only spun half of the first side, while I am writing this, it will get a good work out on the weekend, when I can get my wife out of the house for an hour, and just crank it.

i think the only thing that stops this from being a spot on package, is the insert. It is a black and white insert, which is no problem, but it is just one sided, and I think it could have had a live pic, or something else on the back.

As for the “Return the Struggleville” LP, I don’t think I’ll be doing it anymore, as a UK label is now pressing this, and the Struggleville LP, and to be honest, it will be cheaper to buy it direct from the UK, than for me to press it and charge postage on top of the elaborate 3 coloured screen printed covers I was planning on doing…

Oh well, at least I can own them and enjoy them without having to spend all the money on pressing it…

Go and buy the LP from Broken Circles, as Brent is a great human, releasing some great music: http://brokencircles.limitedpressing.com/products/10768

Well, it’s nice to be back in the writing saddle. I have missed doing this blog, but life took over for a while, and I didn’t really have the wont to do this, but I have been buying records again, and not selling them for a change, and it is truly nice to be able to take joy in writing for this again.

Lately I have been getting back into The Get Up Kids, and buying some records that I either used to own, or never got around to owning (somewhat in preparation for a man-date and listening party with a friend of mine, Ben).

This falls into the former category: The Get Up Kids / Coalesce - Split 7” on Black.

I bought this from a Japanese dude that I have bought a lot of stuff off of in the past, as he knows what he is doing when it comes to looking after records, and I always feel confident about buying from him. This came lovely packaged, and it has been well looked after, with only a slight crease in one corner, but it only cost me a Tenner, so I can’t really complain about that.

I first owned this years ago, just after it came out, and I was pretty into both bands at the time, and it was the first time I had come across a split like this one, where there are 2 bands, who are obviously friends (I’m not sure of they shared members back then), but completely different styles, reinterpreting each others songs.

I fucking loved it then, and I love it now.
